A linearized reduced-order model approach for sloshing to be used for aerospace design

This paper proposes Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) based on data provided by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for generally flexible tanks to be embedded in a larger aerospace structure. A commercial off-the-shelf CFD code addressed sloshing analyses is employed generate set used the synthesis of system ROM. The developed ROM, Linearized Frequency Domain (LFD) approach, makes use an Input/Output identification technique from transient construct unsteady Generalized Sloshing Force (GSF) transfer function (or frequency response function) matrix. done analogy with Aerodynamic (GAF) matrix model aircraft aerodynamics linearized aeroelastic analyses. obtained GSF are suitably fitted via rational polynomial form domain so achieving state-space representation system. Although formulation applicable any 3D arbitrary shape, parallelepiped tank as benchmark order compare that available literature simple geometries. prediction capability such method also assessed comparing forces ROM and those direct even using boundary motions different than identification. fluid seems suitable applications perspective integrated stability design aircraft/spacecraft structures.
